The determination of Polychlorinated
Dibenzo-p-dioxins and Polychlorinated Dibenzofurans
from Stationary Sources.
This method is applicable for the determination of
polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD's) and polychlorinated
dibenzofurans (PCDF's) from stationary sources.
Gaseous and particulate PCDDs/PCDFs are isokinetically
withdrawn from an emission source and collected in
a multicomponent sampling train.
The collection components consist of the front half
glassware surfaces (nozzle, probe, and front half
filter holder), the glass fiber filter, the back half
glassware surfaces (back half filter holder and condenser
coil) and the solid sorbent (XAD-2®) module.
Method 23 which allows for the combination of the
front-half and back-half fractions.
The method requires the toluene rinse fraction to
be prepared and analyzed separately from the other
train components (XAD, filter, rinses). There is an
additional fee associated with having the toluene
rinse analyzed separately. However, the vast majority
of projects combine the TR with the other train components.
Please consult your regulatory agency if you have
questions regarding how the rinse fraction should
be processed.
EPA Method 23 is not equivalent to SW-846 Method 0023A,
where the front-half fractions are prepared and analyzed
separately from the back-half fractions. |
